Supply chain manager is a professional who handles the complete process of managing, planning, controlling, reviewing and implementing the process of supply chain in an organization. He is also responsible for providing leadership and motivation to his team members.

Supply chain management is a process of ensuring that the right type of goods are sent in the right condition at the right place and for a right price. The process includes various sub-processes such as warehousing, marketing and sales to ensure effectiveness in the organizational plans and policies. The role of a supply chain manager is to ensure that the process of supply chain management is in tandem with the predefined objectives of the organization.

The duties performed by a supply chain manager include:

1. Enhancements in the levels of supplier lead time. 2. Improvement in the levels of customer satisfaction. 3. Ensuring immediate responsiveness to customer schedule variances when it is raised. 4. Reducing inventory levels through high supplier delivery performance levels. 5. Ensuring that all plans and policies related to business processes are achieved under strict deadlines. 6. Effective implementation of lean supply base. 7. Providing a supportive hand to the various departments of the organization such as sales, operational planning and inventory. 8. Ensuring that the supply lines of the organization are planned and coordinated as per the predefined sales and revenue forecasts.

Project Manager - Supply Chain Management The role of a project manager is to lead and assist through synergistic inputs to initiate towards process improvement projects. This is a vital role that influences and ensures achievement of organizational goals. Other tasks include formulation of project plans after consultation with field and market experts and devising necessary adjustments in the process of supply chain. This is to ensure that the objectives of supply chain management are readily achievable. For this role, the project manager must be a strong, decision maker who can transform goals into tangible deliverables. He must have a deep commitment and sense of leadership, with a razor-sharp understanding of structured business processes and customer-oriented focus. He must have the required educational qualifications besides an in-depth knowledge of market trends and events. It is essential that he must have expertise in supply chain management and can demonstrate adequate computer knowledge.Supply Chain Manager- Procurement The role of a supply chain/procurement manager is to ensure that all aspects related to the procurement of raw materials and semi-finished goods are made as per budgetary needs and requirements of the organization. He liaisons with various organizational departments to ensure that the procured goods procured are utilized efficiently. It is essential that he has adequate experience in the field of logistics, materials management, operations and purchasing systems. He must also have excellent communication and presentation skills.
