Supply chain refers to the complete process that is responsible for ensuring that the raw materials and semi-finished products that are produced or manufactured in the organization are delivered and distributed to the customer in due course of time. The process initiates when the customer places the order and ends when the products are delivered to the customer. There are numerous challenging job opportunities in the field of supply chain management, namely: Business Relationship Manager (Procurement) The role of a business relationship manager entails providing expertise to the organization in the effective implementation of business improvement initiatives which is associated with ERP. Other tasks include ensuring that the procurements made by the organization are effectively measured, analyzed and delivered. He may need to liaison with vendors, accounting department and suppliers. His role also extends to performance reporting. This enables the organization to take necessary steps which are required for the attainment of organizational business objectives. His role may also extend to continuing procurement strategies, strategic sourcing and the development of investment management appraisal events. He must also have an analytical bent of mind, strong communication and presentation skills. He must have an in-depth knowledge of related systems, processes and sub-processes. He must also have the ability to make sound decisions under strict deadlines. Supply Chain Manager The role of a supply chain manager is to ensure that there is a development of those strategies that are actively involved with supply chain. This helps in achieving the organizational objectives effectively and efficiently. He is also responsible for the development of systems pertaining to planning, implementation and materials control systems. His focus should also extend to plans and procedures with an aim to optimize the manufacturing process of the organization. He must also have an analytical bent of mind, strong communication and presentation skills. He must have an in-depth knowledge of related systems, processes and sub-processes. He must also have the ability to make sound decisions under strict deadlines. Procurement Consultant The role of a procurement consultant is to ensure that he provides his expertise and support in finding solutions for the procurement team. He needs to liaison with vendors, suppliers and internal management to evolve an effective procurement approach. He would be expected to make a detailed study on the quantity, quality, time and place of delivery. He would also advise the management about variances that may have occurred. This would assist the management to devise necessary plans and policies and help the procurement team to accomplish their inter-departmental objectives. He must also have an analytical bent of mind, strong communication and presentation skills. He must have an in-depth knowledge of related systems, processes and sub-processes. He must have the ability to make sound decisions under strict deadlines. Thus, it can be rightly concluded that supply chain management has evolved greatly in the last few years.
